That boarded-up house on the corner could become a new home for a working family and boost tax revenue if a new Athens-Clarke County land bank works.

It's encouraging that the Athens-Clarke County Commission's Legislative Review Committee is taking a careful look at offering some property tax relief to poor and elderly property owners. However, it is to be hoped that both the committee and the full commission don't consider such relief in isolation from other strategies for trimming property tax bills.
